Welcome to Abstract Dance Challenge
(formerly Abstract Movement Festivals), founded in 2021 by Erin Kerr-Trethart and Mackenzie Hollinger in Calgary, Alberta.

As experienced dance educators, Erin and Mackenzie bring a thoughtful and intentional perspective to the competition world.
Having worked with dancers of all levels and abilities, they understand that while what happens on stage is important, it is the experience surrounding it that truly shapes young people.

At Abstract Dance Challenge, we believe the most meaningful part of competition is not just the performance.
It is the atmosphere in the hallways, the wings, and the audience. It is the way dancers support one another, the relationships built between studios, and the sense of community that stays with them long after the weekend ends.
We have always admired the work that studio directors, teachers, and dance families do.
You are the ones shaping not only strong dancers, but good humans by instilling discipline, kindness, integrity, and respect. Our role is to create a space that honours that work. A space where dancers can continue to grow as both performers and people in a supportive, positive environment.

Built on a model of
Mutual respect
A welcoming atmosphere
And a character first approach

Abstract Dance Challenge is committed to fostering an experience where studios feel proud to be part of something bigger than the stage.
It is the atmosphere in the hallways, the wings, and the audience. It is the way dancers support one another, the relationships built between studios, and the sense of community that stays with them long after the weekend ends.
As dance teachers and studio owners ourselves, we know the importance of having adjudicators who teach dance to students of all ages and levels. We ensure that each one of our adjudicators has an extensive teaching background and understands all of the hard work that went in to getting each dancer on stage.
